887 – Skilled Regional visa (Permanent)

The Skilled Regional (Permanent) subclass 887 visa is designed for skilled workers who have already been living and working in regional Australia on a provisional visa. This visa allows them to stay in Australia permanently. To be eligible for this visa, applicants must have held one of the specified qualifying visas, which includes the Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489), Skilled Independent Regional visa (subclass 495), Skilled Designated Area Sponsored visa (subclass 496), Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (subclass 475 or 487), or a Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B after applying for a subclass 495, 487, or 489 visa. Applicants must also have lived and worked in a regional area of Australia for a certain period of time and meet other requirements, such as health and character checks. This visa is a pathway to permanent residency in Australia for skilled workers who are committed to living and working in regional areas.

Introduction

The Skilled Regional (Permanent) subclass 887 visa may be available to you if you have fulfilled the following requirements:

  • You currently hold a Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa
  • You have lived and worked in a regional area of Australia for a minimum of 2 years
  • You have been employed in a regional area of Australia for a minimum of 1 year.

If you meet these criteria, you may be eligible to apply for this permanent residency visa.

  • If granted, the Skilled Regional (Permanent) subclass 887 visa allows you and any additional applicants to become permanent residents of Australia. This visa also entitles you to access to:

    • Permanent residency status
    • Enrollment in any educational institution in Australia
    • Access to Medicare, the national health scheme of Australia
    • Eligibility to apply for citizenship after meeting the necessary criteria
    • Multiple entries to and from Australia for five years from the date the visa is granted
    • Eligibility to sponsor eligible family members.

To be eligible for this visa, you must have lived in a specified regional area of Australia for a minimum of 2 years while holding any of the following visas: Skilled Regional visa (subclass 489), Skilled Independent Regional visa (subclass 495), Skilled Designated Area Sponsored visa (subclass 496), Skilled Regional Sponsored visa (subclass 475 or 487), or Bridging visa A or B obtained after applying for a subclass 495, 487, or 489 visa. Additionally, during the two-year period, you must have worked in a regional area of Australia for a minimum of 1 year.
