Introduction

This visa allows the visa holder to remain in Australia for up to 18 months to gain skilled work experience related to their field of study. The visa is valid for up to 18 months from the date of grant, and the visa holder can work for any employer in any industry, subject to certain conditions.

The Skilled—Recognised Graduate visa (Subclass 476) is designed for recent engineering graduates who wish to live, work or study in Australia for a period of up to 18 months. To be eligible, applicants must have completed an engineering degree or higher qualification from a specified institution within the last two years and be under 31 years of age.

Applicants can include members of their family unit in their application, and children can be added until a decision on the application is made. However, during this period, no other member of the family unit can be added to the application. Family members who apply for the visa must meet Australia’s health and character requirements.

The engineering qualification must be in a specific engineering discipline, such as civil engineering, structural engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, mechanical, production and plant engineering, or mining and material engineering.

To be granted the visa, applicants and their family members must meet Australia’s health requirements and provide evidence of English proficiency unless they hold a valid passport from certain countries. Additionally, applicants who are 18 years of age or older must read or have explained to them the Life in Australia booklet and sign an Australian Values Statement that confirms their commitment to respect the Australian way of life and obey Australian laws.

Visa holders and their family members must comply with all visa conditions and Australian laws while in Australia.
