The RSMS (Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme) is a program that allows skilled workers to be sponsored by employers in regional areas of Australia to fill nominated positions within their company. This program falls under the permanent Employer Sponsored visa program and has three different streams to choose from:
To be eligible for the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme visa, you need to:
If you are unable to find an employer who is willing to sponsor you, you can still submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) through the SkillSelect migration program. The EOI information will be visible to potential employers and state and territory governments. If you are nominated for skilled migration to Australia, you can apply for this visa.
If you have been nominated for this visa, you must submit your application online within six months from the date the nomination was approved. When applying, you must select one of the three possible streams:
Temporary Residence Transition Stream: For this stream, you need to have vocational English language proficiency. You don't need to have your skills assessed since you've already been working in Australia for two years under your sponsoring employer. This stream is only open to applicants who currently hold a 457 visa. If you hold another 400 series visa, you might be able to apply for a permanent visa through the Direct Entry stream instead.
Direct Entry Stream: To apply under the Direct Entry stream, you must possess the relevant skills and qualifications for the nominated occupation. If you're nominated for a trade occupation and you obtained your qualification outside Australia, you'll need to obtain a skills assessment from the relevant assessing authority. Additionally, you need to have competent English language proficiency, which equates to a minimum score of 6 in each of the four components of the IELTS test.
Agreement Stream: To apply under the Agreement Stream, you must meet the age, skills and English language requirements that are specified in the agreement.
It is mandatory for you and any secondary applicants to undergo a medical examination as a part of the visa application process. The main purpose of this examination is to safeguard the health of the Australian community.
To meet the health requirements, you and any additional applicants must be free from any diseases or conditions that could pose a health risk to the community.
The medical examination is essential because it:
In general, all visa applicants are required to meet the health requirements, and in some cases, their dependents must also meet the requirements, regardless of whether they are migrating to Australia.
If a condition or disease has been identified that requires a follow-up medical check, you may be required to sign a Medical Officer of the Commonwealth (MOC) report. In this case, you will need to provide a Health Undertaking to meet the health requirement.
To meet the character requirements for temporary or permanent migration, you will need to provide police clearance certificates from all countries where you have lived for 12 months or more since turning 16 years old in the last 10 years. This is to ensure that you have a clean criminal record and are not considered a potential threat to the Australian community. In addition to police clearance certificates, you may also be required to provide other documents or information related to your character or conduct, such as court documents or statements from employers, colleagues, or other relevant parties.
Employer Responsibilities:
The sponsoring employer must adhere to all the relevant labor laws, regulations, and award conditions applicable in the region where the skilled worker is employed. The employer must also provide the employee with a formal letter of employment that guarantees the following:

Under the RSMS scheme, the skilled worker must comply with the following obligations:
